Languages used in the course
Subjects taught for the BA for Social Education are offered in Italian and German (more or less divided equally). The final exam for each subject takes place in the official teaching language of the subject. Students are only allowed to enrol for this course after having sat a language test and after having passed a selection exam that is based on general knowledge and current events in the social sphere. These results are then used to form a rank list of suitable candidates. Students who have Italian as their first language have to sit a German-language test and students who have German as a first language have to sit an Italian-language exam. Students who have neither German nor Italian as their first language must dot both language tests. Students who do not pass the language test can still enrol for the degree course but they must also attend a compulsory language course for the language they have not passed for the entire first year of their course. Once students have passed this language test, which is administered by the University’s Language Centre, they have all the requirements necessary for enrolling in the second year of the course. If students do not pass this language test, they have to remain in the first year.
